“And I drive a gas hog truck,” he said.
With his wife Judith and 12-year-old daughter Pattie, he expects to continue to live in Madison “for the time being.”
After 22 years of teaching he sees his new position “as a chance to advance myself in administration.”
He said, ‘Teachers get used to dealing with their own little part of the world. Now I have a bigger part to deal with, and that’s going to take some adjustment.”
He is proud of the advanced physical education class he introduced to Madison five years ago. In the class students concentrate of weight training and conditioning. “It’s computerized and individualized to the needs of each student,” he said.
“Most of today’s kids are weak in the upper body,” he said. The conditioning program gives them strength and can “turn a nuyor injury into a bruise."
More and more girls are taking the course “and sometimes they benefit more than the boys,” he said.
Oyer the years he has coached boys’ and girls’ basketball, football, tennis and soccer. “I have really eryoyed that,” he said. “You can get to M more personal with the kids and e>\joy them more.”
