Representing the Morven Park races were director Rogers, and organizers J. Hamilton Lambert, the retired county executive of Fairfax County; Edward A. Maurer Jr., the executive director of the Westmoreland Davis Memorial Foundation Inc., and William J. McDonald, the guiding light behind the successful operations of the Shenandoah Downs race track.
“I feel they made a superb presentation and feel that the commission did give them a green light at the end of the conference," said Arundel, a board member and a horseman.
During the meeting, Shenefield asked the Morven Park race organizers to clarify specific issues left unresolved at previous meetings.
He asked, for example, if all paperwork had been completed designating Rogers as the official spokesman for the Westmoreland Davis Memorial Foundation, which it had been. Ip addition, Shenefield was assured that all background checks (by the State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation) of the Westmoreland Davis trustees, save one, were in the process of being conducted.
“I was generally favorably inclined toward their application,” said Shenefield.
