Frances Thornton will be the new School Board member from Piedmont District. She will serve the remaining year of the term Dorothy Butler held until she resigned. Mrs. Thornton was the only person nominated at a public hearing Monday evening.
Only those nominated at the hearing can be considered for the appointment.
Mrs. Thornton served for many years as the public health nurse in the county. After her retirement she has volunteered in the elementary school, helping both as a nurse and as an office assistant.
Margaret Ann Way land from Sperryville nominated Mrs. Thornton, reading from a letter from former elementary school principal Mary Quaintance Snead, who was in the hospital.
