4-H Leader.
Kelly Lawler and Mrs. Lawler participated in the “Ways of Doing Business” seminar, sponsored by the cooperatives throughout Virginia. Their trips were sponsored by the Rappahannock Farmers’ Co-op.
“The Rappahannock 4-H program received two $100 mini-grants during 4-H Congress, in addition to the awards won by our 4-H’ers,” commented Helen Smith, extension agent.
One will be used to purchase equipment to use with the 4-H embryology project, and the second grant will be used by the 4-H teen club to purchase equipment for the 4-H Outback Project (outdoor camping) in which they are participating.
‘We are very proud of all of our teen 4-H members who participated in 4-H Congress,” stated Mrs. Smith.
The 4-H Congress is a statewide conference attended by approximately 1,000 teen 4-H members each summer on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.
In addition to the state contests that are held, educational workshops and field trips are conducted and recreational activities are planned to give teens the opportunity to meet 4-H’ers from other parts of Virginia and to exchange ideas to use in their 4-H clubs when they return home.
