Mass meeting
brings out
candidates

Rappahannock Democrats held their mass meeting at the courthouse in Washington last Wednesday, hosting four of their party’s candidates for state and national office.
After hearing from Congressional candidates Kay Slaughter and Dean Reed, Virginia Senate hopeful Margaret Haynes and 31st District House of Delegates candidate Jerry Wood, the county Democrats elected four members to the Culpeper convention that will select a nominee to run against Republican opponent George Allen.
Convention delegates from Rappahannock will be James E. Swindler Sr., James E. Swindler Jr., Douglas Baumgardner and Margaret White. Kent Reeve and David Shouse were elected alternates.
County party chairman Baumgardner presided over the meeting, reminding those in attendance of the various upcoming conventions and meetings, and exhorting them to support the slate of candidates in November.
