A Madison County man has been charged with rape for an incident that allegedly occurred after midnight Aug. 18 behind the Pine Knot Inn in Sperryville.

The Rappahannock Sheriffs Office obtained a warrant against Thomas Richards, 23, on Tuesday for rape, according to Capt. Ed Streapy. He allegedly forced a 20-year-old Rappahannock County woman to have sex with him, according to police.

In other police activity this week:

• A woman was injured when she wrecked her motorcycle on U.S. 211, two-tenths of a mile east of Route 643, at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29, according to Trooper W.F. Herrman of the State Police.

Marlene Harbor, 24, of Warrenton, was operating a 1986 Honda motorcycle eastbound on U.S. 211 when she lost control and ran off the left shoulder, where the cycle overturned.

Ms. Harbor was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Damage to the Honda was $500.

Trooper S.M. Knick charged her with reckless driving.
