Another local business likely to see the cash tills ringing merrily is Greenhouse Books, a large bookstore minutes from the site of the proposed school that carries books for everyone from the toddler to the literature major.
Greenhouse Books can order books and even prints some books that can’t be found anywhere else, like “The Bird’s Christmas Carol,” “Bob, the Son of Battle” and other children’s classics.
“One of the teachers already came in to pick up some books for her [own] children,” said Jelks Cabaniss, whose wife owns the shop.
Ragamuffin consignment shop manager Shirley Kenney said that an influx of young people might help her shop. Its inventory includes skis, china ornaments and a trumpet.
At The Bam restaurant, partowner Kathy Fourqurean is looking forward to several hundred potential hungry stomachs. She said that her partner’s daughter attends Wakefield and had supplied them with a heartening piece of information: Wakefield teachers are “really excited” because “they won’t have to brown bag it anymore.”
