But not everyone in Marshall thinks the school will jumpstart business.
Jerry Yowell, who runs Jerry’s Barber Shop, said he doubts the newcomers will come to him, since most already have their barbers closer to home. “You may get a few of them,” he said hopefully.
Wayne Spellman, who manages the pharmacy at IGA Foodliner and Pharmacy ,-said the school isn’t likely to boost many local businesses because “like most typical schools, it’s a closed environment.”
Mr. Spellman said he’s been looking for w ays to increase business for a long time, and so far, nothing he has tried has made a difference. “You can’t do it. Things move at their own pace,” he said.
Either way, the advent of Wakefield School seems sure to have some impact on the community, even if it is merely the school’s physical presence at Marshall Manor assisted retirement home.
The school will fill one-quarter of the existing building, have 113 parking spaces, provide almost an acre of fenced-in recreational area and bring four trailers onto the grounds, according to the school’s plans.
