Bonnie Jewell, 5-9, a sophomore, is also expected to get playing time at forward.
“Our inside game is going to be our strong point,” said Mrs. Leake.
Other varsity players expected to contribute for the Lady Panthers this season include rookie Dietrich Beaver, a guard; sophomore Sherri Thomas, a guard and forward; Michele Williams, a forward up from the jayvee squad this year and Susan Jewell, the team’s lone freshman.
“This is our fourth year, and we have more girls out than ever before,” said Coach Leake, adding the turn-out of 26 players was heartening.
Last year’s district titlist Central High is expected to compete for the championship again this season, said Coach Leake. The Lady Panthers, who went 7-15 last year, have the youngest squad in the district, she said.
