Harriers rely
on returners
Last year the Rappahannock High cross country team compiled a very respectable 9-4 re-" cord, which was only good enough for fourth place in the highly competitive Bull Run District.
This season Coach Tim ■ Corder has been running the home course three times a week (and putting the harriers through ' the hill workout) and taking the runners to Old Hollow for a fivemile jaunt twice a week.
He said one of the team's best' runners, eighth-grader Mark' Jenkins, won’t be able to score" points due to a district prohibition against eighth graders. He’s the team’s second seed, and the' coach said he expects “a lot of good things” from Jenkins. Fopm the past six years Jenkins has won his age category in the Fod-” derstack 10-K race. 1
Returning runners include John Dwyer (senior), Jason Fox (a senior, also playing soccer), ’ Chris Payne (junior) and “really strong” runner Jason Waters, a'sophomore.
Freshman Shane Lambert ? and eighth grader Mike Wolfe round out the squad. '
The cross country team opens the season at Brentsville Sept/11.
