Wakefield plan

The wave of cooperation and optimism, which swept Wakefield School’s special exception application through the sometimes rocky straits of the Fauquier Planning Commission and the Fauquier Board of Supervisors, crested at a dramatic joint public hearing last Thursday, where the go-ahead was granted for the school’s move into Marshall Manor.
About a hundred people, ranging from uniformed Wakefield School children to vociferously supportive Marshall residents were on hand to cheer the unanimous approval to allow the school to occupy one wing of the spacious Marshall Manor assisted retirement home. The board’s vote came minutes after the Fauquier Planning Commission also voted to approve the move.
George Thompson, a lifelong resident of Marshall, summed up the enthusiasm of supporters of the new school site, saying that this was a “unique opportunity to get up and speak for motherhood and apple pie.”
He was followed by a succession of speakers who lauded the school’s academic prowess and the benefits it would bring to Marshall.
