If the county supervisors give
their stamp of approval, the Rappahannock Recreation Authority will be awarded a $63,837 matching grant to transform the recreation center across the highway from the town of Washington into Rappahannock County Park. The Virginia Commission on-Outdoor Recreation has already approved the grant. The only obstacle still remaining before formal approval of the award is given in Richmond on . September 22 is securing a promise from the supervisors that they will “take title to and assume responsibility for the Rappahannock County o Park.” The agreement to take title to the recreation property is essential since the local share of the matching grant is being supplied , through donation of the six acre site to the county, according to rec authority counsel and former chairman Douglas Baumgardner.
The Rappahannock Board of Supervisors will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 8, since the regular meeting date, the first Monday of the month, is a national holiday.
