The superintendent said the first day of classes went “real well,” with no major glitches in the revamped transporation network.
At Rappahannock High there were few major changes, although principal John Toth has a new assistant, Larry Carter, who comes to Rappahannock from Madison County.
At Rappahannock Elementary, first-year principal David Smith noted the opening of school went “very smoothly. I was pleased.”
He said there have been a few personnel changes, and the wholelanguage learning program that was instituted in kindergarten and first grade last year has been expanded into second and third grades. Art is now being taught by three different teachers and Amy Wolf is supervising the gifted and talented program.
Dr. Gangel sounded upbeat about the coming year. “We’re continually trying to improve and find ways to do a better job.” He said the results of a parent survey distributed on Fee Day are being tabulated, and the school system will use that information to provide what students want and need.
