As a lobbyist for Virginia Pharmaceutical Association in the ’70s. and a long-time activist in local politics, Del. Wood will not be a complete neophyte when he arrives in Richmond. He also attended Richmond’s Medical College of Virginia and says he knows “some of the best kept secrets in town.”
Del. Wood said he realizes that if bills crowd the House floor and committee work tables, then lobbyists must be in equal numbers in the corridors and outside offices, pedalling their interests and telling delegates that their case is the most worthy.
Del. Wood says he’ll be undaunted by the lobbyists’ pressures. “I feel like I have an open mind,” he said. Lobbyists are no more than salesmen of opinions and Del. Wood says he’s used to that. Besides, lobbyists often represent good causes, he said.
