At the November meeting the Library Board made progress toward resolving the impasse between itself and the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors on the accounting for the Library Board’s investments.
The Library Board asked its members John McCarthy and Helen Platt, along with James P. Jamieson, treasurer of the Friends of the Rappahannock Library, to form a committee to work with the county’s accountants on procedures for handling a disputed investment fund.
The Library Baord receives investments from the Friends that are intended to reduce the library’s dependence on the supervisors for support.
Mr. Jamieson said that he would not recommend having the investments placed in a “street account” as recommended by the accounting firm, since such investments are subject to abuses, such as have occurred with savings and loan organizations recently.
