Corn program
payments stop
Since the market prices on 1990crop com and sorghum exceeded the basic loan rates for these crops, no increased deficiency payments, known as Findley payments, will be made.
The basic loan rates were $1.96 per bushel for com and $1.86 per bushel for sorghum. The national average prices received by producers from September 1990 through August 1991 were $2.28 and $2.12 per bushel, respectively.
Findley payments are made when the basic support level for a crop is reduced to maintain domestic and export markets for that commodity. These payments are made only when the 12-month national weighted average market price is less than the price support level before it was reduced.
Local producers enrolled 1,018 base acres of com in the 1991 farm program.
