Rappahannock is one of many Virginia localities that have been given federal disaster designation due to the fact that it shares-borders with two counties that have been identified as drought-stricken, Fauquier and Warren.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture extends disaster relief to contiguous localities when a neighboring county is given primary designation.
Other drought-stricken counties in Virginia this summer were Clarke, Highland, Isle of Wight, Richmond, Stafford and Westmoreland.
The designation - makes Rappahannock farmers eligible to apply for FmHA emergency loan assistance. Those who experienced drought losses should contact the local FmHA office for more information about qualifying for assistance.

Feed grain
acreage set
. A five percent acreage reduction requirement is in effect for 1992 com, grain sorghum and barley. The 1991 program called for a 7.5 percent reduction in com, sorghum and barley acres. The feed grain program does not require a reduction in oats acreage.
Other provisions of the 1992 feed grain program will be announced as soon as they become available. Knowledge of how much land will be idled will help producers plan for the coming year.
World and U.S. 1991/92 ending stocks of feed grains, are historically low which makes the initial acreage reduction percentage subject to adjustment, particularly in light of uncertainties around the world.
Any such adjustment would be announced bv Nov. 15.
