Heart walk planned
The American Heart Association’s annual heart walk (formerly called turkey walk) will be held earlier this year to coordinate with hundreds of thousands of other heart walkers in over 450 cities in the U.S. The Rappahannock Heart Walkers will gather for the six-mile event at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 in Old Hollow just north of U.S. 211 on Route 612, Sperryville.
In addition to the benefits of improved heart. health and enjoyment of the beauties of nature there will be prices given, from T-shirts to TVs, to - the walkers who collect contributions from friends - and neighbors. Library series continues
The Oct. 2nd First Friday program at Rappahannock County Library will feature Keith Medler, author of “Hail to the Candidate: Presidential Campaigns From Banners to Broadcasts.” As Curator of Political History at the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution, Keith Medler has many historical interpretive exhibits to his credit, including in 1988-89, "The Perpetual Campaign,” about the American people and their presidents. Dr. Medler’s book "Hail to the Candidate” captvaws the intensity of past campaigns and examines the devices candidates use to project a project image ef themselves. The Oct. 2 program starts at 8 pJMi the Rappahannock Library’s meeting room, followed by refreshments and a chance to meet with the author. Admission is free.
RLEP annual meeting
The Rappahannock League for Envfeagmental Protection Inc. (RLEP) is holding As snnial meeting from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Sept. *4 at the Washington fire hall. The purpose ef the meeting is to get community feedback to identify which issues are vital to the residents of RauplMDOckCounty. Some of the projects RLEP has aassiin vofved with have included scenic easement* environmental education, park-related trail mkss|ement and zoning issues.
Paul Reisler of Trapezoid and Martha Sandefer will present a vespagedal night of music. He will feature songs and instrumentals from his upcoming recording which will be reflections from 25 years of living ia rural environs. One song entitled “Rappahannock” was written for a 13 part PBS series entitled "Rural America: Legacy and Change.”
