To the Editor:
The pitiful and uncaring response of the Bush Administration to the looming health care crisis in this country was again portrayed by Congressman Wolf, R-lOth Dist., on his recent visit to Rappahannock.
There are 34 million Americans without health insurance and many more are underinsured. In addition to the steady increase in insurance costs are creating problems for many families.
The Republican response is a voucher system providing $3,000 subsidy for each poor family (below $1,4000 a year income) or a tax deduction for health insurance cost for the others.
Where is this money coming from? There are no answers from Mr. Bush nor Congressman Wolf. All you hear is the threat of government health care for the Democratic plan.
I wonder what the people over age 62 would do if they did not have Medicare. If I am not mistaken this is a government program. Oh, and by the way where does the Bush family get their care, I believe it is at Bethesda Naval Hospital.
There are many problems but also many possibilities to solve to health care problem but the Bandaid solution of the Republicans is not the answer.
We need a Democratic Congress \and President that would work tof gether to tackle this very difficult problem.
