It is well known around, the world that the Lions’ motto is “We Serve” and that much of the service. Lionism has been focused upon is related to overcoming human sight and hearing problems ever since Helen Keller challenged the pioneering membership to become “Knights of" the Blind.”
Gov. Woolsey gave special attention to the most recent Lions International campaign dedicated to eradicating the cuases of preventable and curable blindness in our' world community. It has been reported that every 20 to 30 seconds someone somewhere goes blind.
The newly organized Campaign SightFirst is motivated by the sincere belief that “it will be possible to open the eyes of children at risk of losing their sight; to save the sight of parents so that they can provide for their families; and to restore the sight of the elderly who might otherwise never see their grandchildren.”
Your local Lions will be applying additional effort to contribute to this vital cuase with special emphasis placed upon the needs of neighbors in our local community. So much human blindness can be prevented and much more eye impairment is potentially cureable.
