The second true story is about a visit I had to a city animal shelter where there were many cats and kittens. The shelter attendant said that during the summer, sometimes there are so many cats and* kittens, that they can only keep them for one week, and then they have to be euthanatized, because of the overpopulation. My eyes filled with tears after hearing this. If people would be responsible and have their kitten or puppy spayed or neutered, we would not have this problem of overpopulation! If you cannot afford to spay or neuter a pet, then you shouldn’t have one.
The third true story is about a four-week-old kitten I named Cinders. I found her walking on a busy state road in Rappahannock County. It was dark outside, when I found her, my car almost hit her, but thank God I was able to see her just in time. When I picked her up I noticed she had been neglected very badly. She was malnourished, starved, and her ears were ftill of mites and dirt.
She meowed the whole way home, but after I got her home and fed, she cuddled in my lap and began to purr. She needed a lot of love, because someone her deserted her. This story has a very sad ending, the next day after I rescued her, she became very sick and died that evening. She had become so malnourished when I found her that her body was too weak to fight to live.
