The board voted to hire Elizabeth James to teach the fifth section of kindergarten. Miss James is a 1992 graduate of James Madison University. She started work Tuesday and will be working with the four existing classes this week and move into her own classroom over the weekend.
Chairman Beverly Massie approved the plan to wait until the weekend to set up the separate class “so the students will get to know her. There will be less disruption for the children taken out of their classes. It is our intent that the children feel comfortable and cared for.”
In order to accommodate the extra class a first-grade class will be moved into a current fourth-grade classroom. The fourth-grade class will move into a fifth-grade classroom. That classroom will move into another fifth-grade classroom, and the fifth and sixth-grade teachers who teach in the math lab and have separate classrooms for the rest of their teaching schedule will share a classroom.
