“This is more a tourist home than a bed and breakfast,” Chairman Allen Stokes said.
Hampton District representative John Clark Jr. said he had problems with the long steep driveway to Mr. Bridges house. “It’s treacherous in sleet or snow,” he said.
Mr. Bridges said he had never been stranded in snow.
Mr. Clark asked if he would object to a provision that the rooms not be rented during winter months.
Mr. Bridges said he did not think the Bleu Rock would send him customers in bad weather. He noted that durihg most winter weekends his driveway is clear.
Mike Massie, who represents the Board of Supervisors on the Planning Commission, said he had problems with locating commercial establishments in conservation zones. “This is putting a commercial use on top of the most fragile land, but there was a precedent before I came on the board in Sycamore Hill,” he said.
Dr. Krebser added, “This tells us to clean up the ordinance. ”
Eventually Mr. Clark made a motion to recommend approval of the application providing that it be a tourist home, not a bed and breakfast, no meals would be served, a site plan would be supplied, and the permit would be for two years with the planners reviewing the application at the end of two years. This motion passed.
