Releford is certified
CULPEPER — James W. Releford of Castleton recently was certified as a journeyman roller operator under a Federal Highway Administration-approved program conducted jointly by L.F. Franklin and Sons Inc. of Stephanson, his current employer, and the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Mr. Releford is building his construction trades ability with the operator certification serving as an example. He started this early May operating a roller for Franklin and Son on the Route 211 project just west of Washington, Va. Last year he worked for the contractor who was building Route 639 into the Rappahannock County landfill near Amissville.
Releford is the second Franklin employee to receive certification in a construction field this year. In June, Earl F. Clanagan, of Washington, Va., was certified as a pipe layer-drainage worker.
Matthews graduates
BLACKSBURG — Jennifer H. Matthews, BZA vice chairman from Rappahannock County, was among the graduating class of the eighth Virginia Certified Boards of Zoning Appeals Program on Sept. 11.
The certification program is an educational effort designed to provide new and veteran boards of zoning appeals’ members with a comprehensive introduction to zoning and the critical responsibilities borne by local boards of zoning appeals.
The award-winning program is sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service’s Community Development and the Virginia Citizens Planning Association.
