The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, met on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at the Culpeper United Methodist Church in Culpeper with the Regent, Mrs. Thomas Eastham presiding and with Mrs. Claude Guinn and Mrs. Biedler Settle as hostesses.
The guest speaker was Ann Hunter, State Recording Secretary, who spoke on “The Commitment and the Challenge” of DAR members. To be a member of the DAR means having an interest in our heritage, in having pride in country and family, in working for political equality - members meet on the common ground of a common heritage.
America needs, now as always, knowledgeable and concerned citizens, aware of sacrifices of the past, familiar with our documents guaranteeing the American way of life, and willing to preserve the freedom with faith and dedication. Knowledge of an American heritage is not automatic but must be learned, and education, one of the three DAR objectives, is the key to the future. Mrs. Hunter was asked to author a DAR history for the Centennial of this organization which she did admirably in her book “A Century of Service; the'Story of the DAR.”
The message of the President General as published in the national DAR magazine was read by Mrs. Dieter Knuepfer. This was the first greeting of her three year term to the members and she stressed her theme for the term - “Continuing the Commitment, Challenging the Future.” One of her goals is to shorten the time scheduled for Continental Congress always held in April - in 1993 it will be April 2024.
Mrs. Dale Metzinger, Registrar, presented four names to be voted Upon for membership as soon as their lineage papers are approved by the National Committee - all were voted upon favorably.
Mrs. Metzinger showed the P. Buckley Moss print of the Memorial Continental Hall, which was commissioned for the DAR Centennial in 1990, and which can be purchased for $60.
