At their annual Conservation Awards Picnic held on Sept. 3, the Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District awarded Dr. Monira Rifaat, owner of Manor Farm, the Clean Water Farm Award for Rappahannock County.
Dr. Rifaat is a part-time pathologist and a full-time farmer. She is a board member of the Rappahannock Farmer’s Association and a member of the Virginia Simental Association. Her farm is located half way between Sperryvflle and Washington.
Manor Farm is a 280 acre cattle farm consisting of a registered semintal herd of 20 cows and a 80 cow commercial herd. The semintal herd maintains an excellent gene pool by using an artificial insemination and an embryo transfer program. Dr. Rifaat participates in the Virginia Bull Test Station programs in Culpeper and Wytheville. She has also sold her stock in the Staunton and Blackstone bull sales.
To support her herd, Dr. Rifaat grows approximately 21 acres of notill com; 35 acres of hay; 40 acres of alfalfa and the remainder of the farm is in improved pasture.
