The prison, built on federal property, has been mired in controversy over the past few months. Just last week, on inmate was killed in the prison, another escaped, and 17 former and current prison employees were arrested in connection with an internal prison drug ring.
“While we want to work with the district to stem the tidal wave of violent crime, the citizens of Fairfax County have every right to demand assurances that the prison’s problems won’t spill over into their backyards,” said Robb.
Robb also co-sponsored a series of amendments and provisions in the bill, including:
• an amendment to prevent the Department of Motor Vehicles from giving our names, addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers. A Virginia woman was stalked and harassed by a group that obtained personal information on her by tracking her car tag number.
• tougher laws for hate crimes.
• boot camps for non-violent, first-time offenders. The bill also includes provisions to would allow military bases slated to be closure to be used as boot camps.
• eliminating “good time” credits for violent and repeat offenders.
• augmenting court’s ability to deal with violence against women and domestic violence.
