unfold this summer and fall has been - a most painful daily experience.
While it’s true the old road needed work (to prevent occasional flooding) the overall effect of the “improvements” there is that it is no longer recognizeable as a little country road serving a rural hollow in Rappahannock, resulting in faster traffic and an immeasureable loss of beauty and charm. Our quality of life is thus diminished.
As an old neighbor remarked to me about traveling there, “It just doesn’t feel like going home any more.”
The dual laning excavation work at the junction of the two roads has changed the landscape there nearly beyond recognition. I dare to venture that its design standard was probably based upon a 70 mph road plan instead of 55 mph. The results
