The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will sponsor a wild horse and burro adoption at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, Va. Dec. 10-11. Admission is free and the adoption fee is $125 per horse and $75 for each burro. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
BLM will offer for adoption 100 wild horses and 50 burros, symbols of our nation’s heritage, to qualified individuals who agree to give them good homes. Each person can adopt up to four animals.
BLM Director Jim Baca said the Adopt-A-Horse program is the only way the government has of maintaining a balance between wild horses, native wildlife and domestic animals grazing on fragile western rangelands.
