Miss Helen Lorimer Matthews became the bride of Alexander Gray Blanton on Saturday evening. Nov. 6 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington where Mrs. Blanton’s grandparents and great-grandparents had been married. The candlelit ceremony was performed by the .. Rev. Jennings W. Hobson, III.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Charles B. Russell of Flint Hill, and the late William R. Matthews, Jr. oi Front Royal. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Harold G. Brown * and the late Mr. Brown of Winchester.
The bridegroom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Douglas Blanton of Front Royal.
Given in marriage by her step-father, Charles B. Russell, the bride wore a gown of medieval ivory sateen brocade with a bodice of embroidered seed pearls over lace. The gown was styled with a deep heartshaped neckline, ruche shoulders, ^ long and traditional sleeves, a deep vee back and a full chapel train. For her headdress she chose a jaunty narrow brimmed sateen hat trimmed with a bow, silk flower and . seed pearls, with a short eye veil. She carried a cascade bouquet of cream lilies, deep blue delphinium, blush roses, caspia and English ivy.
Mrs. Robert Bachelor was her sister’s matron of honor. Attendants were Miss Ruth Bachelor, Mrs. W. Rice Matthews, III, and Miss Jennifer Wilson, all of Front Royal.
They wore midnight blue velvet gowns with matching silk sateen cummerbunds finishing in a bow with diamonite clasps. Deeply off the shoulder ruching framed the neckline. The attendants carried bouquets identical to the bride’s.
Dr. David Carter Blanton was his brother’s best man.
