mer. The McNears have a daughter at West Point and another at Emory University in Atlanta, so they have visited both with Carlos. He has plans before the end of the year to visit Washington, D.C., New York City, and the Army-Navy Game. He also looks forward to skiing, another sport to add to his long list.

Nadya Avila hails from Poza Rica, in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. Her first love is ballet, and she attends a class once a week in Culpeper. In her home country, she has been dancing most of her life, and has appeared in the Nutcracker and Swan Lake. She has also done some modelling.

She is spending this year with Paula and Tom Klatko and their daughter Sara, a sophomore at RCHS. In early November, a PBS production team visited Nadya, Paula and Sara at the high school and taped them for a show about the differences between here and Mexico. The show was scheduled to air November 21.

“I love learning English here, and also like learning about other people’s points of view,” said Nadya. She also loves Arbv’s, but says Taco Bells here are very different from those in Mexico. Lunch is the main meal of the her day; dinner is more like lunch here, she said.

Upon returning to Mexico, Nadya plans to study marketing in college.
