On the subject of “feasting,” suffice it to say that feasting is a very old custom, dating from Biblical days - celebrations, weddings, birthdays, miliary victories, holidays, and religious celebrations, to name a few - are almost always accompanied by food and drink. In our society, it is considered hospitable to offer vistors something to eat. This is one reason the holidays pose a special problem for people watching their weight. The best advice I can give is to center holiday get-togethers around activities, not food! By activities, I mean caroling, tree decorating, sleigh-riding, etc., not cookie swaps.
