The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, gathered at Graves Mountain Lodge on Tuesday, Nov. 9 for its annual National Defense luncheon with the Regent, Mrs. Thomas Eastham presiding.
The President General’s message was read by Mrs. Dieter Knuepher in which Mrs. Blair urged members J to remember with thanksgiving our forefathers’ contributions to our country.
Mrs. Edward I. Barton, National Defense Chairman of the Chapter, read the first Thanksgiving Proclamation by President George Washington given on Oct. 2, 1789, to assign Thursday, Nov. 26 as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer. Both houses of Congress requested him to recommend to the people of the United States this special day.
The speaker for the afternoon, introduced by Mrs. Dieter Knuepher, was Dr. Edward F. Puryear, Jr., lawyer, author and professor, whose topic was “The United Staes Military at the End of the Cold War.”
