Play Group

Formed

To the Editor:

In a world that seems to be so fast-paced and often violent or tainted with evil temptations, I have found one thing that will make every mother want to slow down. That is our precious children.

I have realized that when my children reach my age they will surely need a good friend and a good mother. I want to be both to my children.

There is hardly a day that goes by that we don’t'read, see, or hear of something that has happened to the children of our world. Drugs, alcohol, war, rape, incest, kidnappingthese are words that often make my shiver. These are the things that steal our children’s innocence. ‘ By being open and honest with our children, and teaching them to “say no,” be aware of strangers, and be strong willed, we are helping them.

One specific way to get closer to our children and show them we care, is to spend time with them. I have formed a “playgroup” that meets once a Week for 2-3 hours. Mothers stay with their children, and participate in crafts, singing, storytime, and playtime.

Captain Jeff Brown of the Rappahannock Sheriffs Department has kindly agreed to meet with our group for one session in December. He will be fingerprinting our children and talking about ways to stay safe.

So far this is a small group. If you and your child interested in participating in our group, you may call me after 8 p.m. at 987-8142. Remember, our children are our responsibility.
