Did you know that in Virginia approximately 7,200 children under the age of three were born with developmental delays and/or disabilities according to the 1992 Annual Report, Virginia’s Implementation of Part H of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act?
Infants and toddlers with delays and disabilities need help. So do their families. It is hard for the parents to cope w ith the knowledge that their child may learn different than his brothers and sisters or that he may need therapy to reach his maximum potential. The major problem is that many of these families don’t realize there is a problem until after the child goes to school.
The first four years are of utmost importance in a baby’s learning and cognitive growth.
Early Intervention is the key. The longer a family waits to request help, the less impact the services have and treatments are often more expensive for the older child.
