“Well, money’s been scarce. There’ll be meatloaf instead of turkey on our Thanksgiving table. We won’t have much of a celebration this year.”
Whether we’re “talking turkey” or Christmas trees, those are only symbols, not the true theme of the celebration. In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 we read, “Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in ail circumstances, for this is the will of God...”
The message is clear. In all things give thanks. We may recall some ’lean” holidays that were extraordinarily joyous and memorable. Why? Perhaps we were expecting little, thus, magnifying any additional blessings. Perhaps we relied more upon tradition, family, and worship in our search for joy and thankfulness.
It is our nature to seek thankfulness. God made us in His image with a joyful and thankful heart. This Thanksgiving, may a thankful heart be the center of your celebration. You will discover joy unsurpassed.
