Last week’s Planning Commission Forum on fanning, tourism, business and jobs brought out a lot of concerned county residents with strongly felt opinions.,
County Administrator John McCarthy explained that the Comprehensive Plan, which is in the process of being updated by the Planning Commission, recognizes that Rappahannock County has a rural, agricultural economy. Comments from this forum, and previous ones held in the latter part of 1995 and earlier this year will be considered by Planning Commission members in the Comprehensive Plan. He said he hopes to come back with a document for a formal public hearing in the early summer.
Most of the discussion centered around farming in the county. Newbill Miller, a cattle farmer, said that he thinks a majority of the county’s residents want a low density population, and that a viable agriculture is absolutely essential if this is going to continue.
