Jeff Rouse of Fredericksburg, Gold and Silver Medalist in swimming at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, points out that Olympic hopefuls require extensive financial support. “Estimates show that it takes as much as $45,000 to train a worldclass swimmer and more than a millipn dollars to equip a hockey team,” Mr. Rouse says. “In addition, many athletes spend their life’s savings on Olympics-related expenses. That’s a compelling point for finding an alternative means of fund raising like the tax check-off program.”
