After a brief public hearing with 1 no public comments the Washington Town Council amended its budget ; last Wednesday.
Member Ray Gooch asked for a i rundown on funding for the water i system. Mayor Stewart Willis tried to answer his questions. Mr. Gooch said i during the last election there were claims the water project had gone way over budget, and in fact it seemed the project was only about $18,000 over budget.
Mayor Willis said that was true and the council had the funds to pay the bill to Rappawan but could not do so.
The council approved advertising that when a public hearing has to be - canceled due to inclement weather, the public hearing will be held at the next regularly scheduled meeting. In January the regular meeting at which budget amendments were to be considered was postponed one week. When the council did meet they adopted some of the changes and put others off to the February meeting. Those that had been previously approved were reaffirmed at February’s meeting.
The town approved making town attorney Frank Reynolds available to the Architectural Review Board for controversial applications. The council also asked Mr. Reynolds to prepare a pamphlet summarizing the requirements under the Historic District Ordinance to be passed out to the public and made available to local real estate agents.
Street lights came up again although, for once, they were not on the agenda. Mayor Willis said there was some question on whether the price approved included light bulbs.
