Coach Baltimore was enthusiastic . over the win, especially when they started to pull ahead after halftime. “We started getting easy buckets from good breakaways, and we owed the pickup to easy buckets. We also started hitting more shots and widening up the zone.”
Thursday the Panthers played Manassas Park, which is Coach Baltimore’s alma mater. Rappahannock won with a score of 67-59, closing the regular season. The high scorers of the game were Jon Butler with 22 points, Jeff Atkins with 16 points, and Willie Eastham with 13 points.
Coach Baltimore commented: “I was very nervous. Manassas Park had played very well at home, beating some of the top teams. I felt it was very important to jump on them at the beginning and to take the game away from them early.” This strategy had worked against Manassas Park in a previous home game, with the Panthers winning 7749.
With the latest win over Manassas Park, Coach Baltimore feels that the Panthers are entering the district tournament “with momentum.”
“There’s no tomorrow in the tournament, because you’re out with one loss,’ he said. “We’ve got to go out and give it our best. We have to come out clicking. We can’t wait until the third quarter to start playing,” as has happened in some home games this season.
“The tournament is wide open. Anybody can win this thing,” he added.
Coach Baltimore praised Rappahannock’s fans. “They come out regardless of where the boys are playing.” He said Rappahannock fans packed the stands at the Manassas Park game.
