Last week Rappahannock varsity basketball ended up with three wins and one loss for the week and brought the regular season to a close with 12 wins and 6 losses (10 and 6 in district
plaj|.
This left the team in fifth place in the nine-member Bull Run District with the possibility of a tie for fourth place. Who and where they will play in the tournament depends on how other teams play. With one district game left on the schedule between Central and Brentsville Tuesday night the district could end up with ,a tie for first, second, third or fourth.
The Panther game in the quarter final round of the tournament will get underway either Wednesday or Thursday in either the Clarke County or Page County high school gyms.
Last Tuesday the Panthers lost to George Mason, with a score of 56-51. Coach Eugene Baltimore said: “The game could have gone either way. We were even until the final 25 seconds, they were up by one point, missed a free throw, got the rebound and stuck it back in.” This was followed by a turnover that allowed George Mason to do a layup.
Wednesday they played Strasburg at home and beat them to a pulp. The Panthers looked a little tired in the first and second quarters, but really hustled the second half. In the first period Strasburg was staying right in front of the basket so that the Panthers had to pass a lot more than Shoot.
By the end of the third period, Rappahannock was showing off some great skill. Jeff Atkins and Jon Butler had a good night with their shots and ball control. Willie Eastham also had a good game under the basket with
