The May 4 Virginia Gold Cup races at Great Meadow will feature a $5,000 Foxhunters’ Chase over a modified “Hunt Course.” Run for the Paul Mellon trophy, riders who have not won a sanctioned race will compete over ditches, banks, logs, pond crossings, timber and brush.
The NSA announced after a January board meeting that the diuretic Lasix will now be allowed for therapeutic use at hunt meets, effective this spring. Race meetings can choose whether or not to recognize the rule, but all but one of 24 spring sanctioned races had agreed to the Lasix rule as of this writing.
