Strawberry Hill had 20,000 race fans; Middleburg Spring 10,000; Marengo 8,000; Georgetown at Morven Park 12,000; and, the grand-daddy of them all, the Virginia Gold Cup, boasted 50,000 railbirds in The Plains.
