The tradition of “Opening Day” for the trout fishing season still is alive and well in Virginia, according to John O’Toole of Trout Unlimited, even though it would seem to be lost with Virginia’s no closed season policy.
Keeping the tradition alive is the annual children-only “Opening Day” festival on the Rose River in Madison County. “It will be the samp as always,” said Mr. O’Toole.
“This year’s event will take place’ Saturday, March 16, beginning at 9 a.m., on Route 670 between Criglersville and Syria. Children 12 and under are eligible.
