Todd Matthews of Fredericksburg reported last Thursday that someone broke into his vehicle while he was hiking in Shenandoah National Park. Several items, .including pants, boots and some CD’s, were taken.
Last Friday at 3:15 p.m., a 1986 Isuzu 2-door driven by Robert Edward Bendl, 46, of Midlothian, ran off the right side of the road and struck a large rock, after losing control on ice and snow. The accident took place on U.S. 211 three miles west of Route 667.
Mr. Bendl was not injured, and he was not charged by Trooper Charles Moore who investigated the accident.
A 17 year-old male from Washington did $8,000 damage to a 1983 Mercedes Benz he was driving last Saturday at 4:15 p.m. when he ran off the right side of Route 622, 1.6 miles south of U.S. 211. After running off the road, he lost control of the car, skidded back across the road and struck an embankment. Trooper Moore charged him with reckless driving (going too fast for the road conditions, a wet road). The driver was injured but to what extend is unknown.
