The cover photo was taken by Warrenton’s Douglas Lees, an Eclipse Award-winning photographer and regular fixture at Virginia’s hunt meets and point-to-points. He captufed amateur rider Michele Rouse after winning a timber race aboard one of her husband Randy’s horses.
Both Rouses have been many times recognized as champion amateur steeplechase jockeys. Michele has won the ladies’ timber crown three times since she began race riding in the early 1980s. Some of her most prolific mounts have been Fire Sale, Political Angel, Anxious Talker and The Printer.
