Myzk said that his work day at the races begins with early arrival, complete with a “lunch box” so he doesn’t have to leave his post and prepared program pages so he can be up-to-the-minute on weight requirements and any changes.
“That way 1 can be helpful to the stewards, too, and check or report errors printed in the program,” Myzk said. He continued, saying that another part of the job is knowing the language and knowing the players.
For instance: “A rider ‘weighsout’ before a race,” he explained. “And ‘weighs-in’ afterwards. You have to know what you’re saying. Also, when you know the players, you know who is likely to cheat to do a light weight, or who might try to get away with carrying less and weighing back in with more.
