LEESBURG — The sport of steeplechasing has developed into a real-life business since its humble beginnings in 1752 Ireland. And along with its evolution have evolved rules and regulations that control jump racing’s growth and maturation and define the industry.
Competent officials are the most basic necessity in keeping tabs on the three-ring circus atmosphere of a point-to-point or hunt meeting. To wit, the Virginia Steeplechase Association offers officials’ seminars to introduce racing fans and interested horsemen to the finer points of officiating.
