With all but the varsity basketball :eam finished for the season, coaches ire reflecting on the season just past »nd looking forward to next year.

JV basketball coach Luther Stanley said although his team finished with eight wins to 10 losses, “I felt the season went pretty good. We bad a lot of learning experiences to deal with, but the boys gave 100 percent each time we hit the court.”

He will be losing R.J. White, Mike Letsen, Michael Baader, Kenny Deal and Jonathan Moore to varsity play next year. “1 think most of them can make an impact on the varsity.”

He plans to rebuild his team around fetuming players Michael and Daniel Settle, Irwin Phillips, Daniel Digges, Chris Dennis and StevenStubbs. He is also expecting to pick up Alex Baumgardner and perhaps B.J. Armstrong from the Junior Panther team.

“I think we should do pretty decent next year,” he said. “We need to find another guard to help out Daniel Digges. I’ve seen a big improvement in Chris Dennis and Jonathan Moore this year.”

On the other hand Junior Panther Coach Reed Gillespie said he is concerned about next year, since four of five starters will be moving up.

Current eighth graders who will no longer be eligible for the Unior Panther team are Abe McLear, Alex Baumgardner, Chris Turner, Zack Todd, Kent Switzer, Brian Compton and Lars Lyman.

The team had a two and five record, but Coach Gillespie said, ”We had fun. That’s the most important thing.” He said he expects Alex Baumgardner and Abe McLear to make a solid contribution to the JV team next year.

Varsity volleyball coach Laura Conklin said her team suffered from a “lack of confidence. Several times we went to three games [in matches], but we didn’t pull it out. 1 think the skill level was equal, but we were mentally weaker.”

She said the team had a tendency to lose confidence whenever the other team scored two or three points in succession. “They would start getting down no matter what the score
