On Sunday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m., the Washington Volunteer Fire Department plans a commissioning ceremony of its brand new pumper fire truck. Drinks and light snacks will be provided along with demonstrations of the department’s various pieces of equipment. The public is invited.

• Aug. 24, from 1-5 p.m. an opening reception for an exhibit of the personal collection of National Geographic photographer Joseph Scherschel will be held at the Glassworks Gallery in Sperryville. The gallery is open Thursday through Sunday, 12 to 6 p.m.
• Aug. 25, at 7:30 p.m., a joint session of the Town Council and the Tbwn Planning Commission will be held in the town hall to discuss planner Milton Herd’s proposal for the steps required to develop a new Compre-hensive Plan for the town. All interested people from the town or the surrounding community, are encouraged to attend.
• Aug. 27, at 6:30 p.m., kindergarten orientation at RCES.
• Aug. 28, book day for RCHS and RCES will be held at RCES fropi 2 to 5 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m.
